Hazard Description

When a heavy object — such as a large pot or a child — is placed on an open oven door, the range can tip forward if the anti-tip bracket is not properly secured to the wall or floor. A tipping range can spill hot food, liquids, and cookware, posing serious burn and crush injury risks, particularly to children.

Affected Brands and Models

This recall covers 30-inch, 24-inch, and 20-inch free-standing and slide-in electric and gas ranges sold under seven brand names: GE, GE Profile, Café, Haier, Hotpoint, Crosley, and Conservator. Only ranges with serial numbers that begin with “HS” or “LS” and end with “P” are included. Prices ranged from $580 to $4,600 depending on the model.

Affected units were sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, and other home improvement and appliance stores nationwide and online from May 2021 through July 2021.

Units Affected

Approximately 132,000 units in the United States and nearly 13,000 additional units in Canada were subject to this recall.

Incidents Reported

CPSC confirmed incidents of ranges tipping when weight was applied to the open oven door, consistent with an improperly installed or missing anti-tip bracket. GE issued this recall to proactively address the hazard and ensure all recalled ranges had properly anchored brackets.

Ge Range Recall What to Do

  1. Check your serial number. Look at the label inside the oven door frame. If the serial number begins with “HS” or “LS” and ends with “P,” your range is recalled.
  2. Do not place heavy objects on the open oven door until the anti-tip bracket has been inspected and secured.
  3. Keep children away from the range and never allow them to climb on or hang on an open oven door.
  4. Contact GE Appliances toll-free at (877) 247-9770 or the general GE line at 1-800-432-2737, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. ET to schedule a free in-home inspection.
  5. Schedule the free service call. A GE technician will inspect and properly secure the anti-tip bracket at no charge.

Urgency: MODERATE–HIGH. Tipping-range accidents are a leading cause of serious burns in homes with young children. If your serial number matches, schedule the free bracket inspection immediately. Do not wait for an incident to occur.
