GE electric cooktop recall 2023 — GE Appliances (a Haier Company), in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), recalled approximately 11,000 GE-brand JP3030 knob-controlled electric radiant cooktops due to a burn hazard caused by burners that remain on after being turned to the “off” position.

Hazard Description

Misaligned burner knob stems and fractured knob components can prevent the burner from properly shutting off when the control knob is turned to the “off” position. The burner continues to generate heat — and the “Hot Cooktop” indicator light remains illuminated — even though the consumer believes the unit is off. This silent hazard significantly increases the risk of accidental contact burns, particularly for children and the elderly, as well as fire from unattended cookware left on a surface the owner believes is cool.

Affected Models

This recall covers GE-branded JP3030 knob-controlled electric radiant cooktops manufactured from July 2022 through September 2022, with serial numbers beginning with the prefixes LT, MT, RT, or ST. Specific affected model numbers include:

  • JP3030DJ4BB (Black)
  • JP3030SJ4SS (Stainless Steel)
  • JP3030TJ4WW (White)

Units were sold at Best Buy, Lowe’s, The Home Depot, and other appliance retailers nationwide from July 2022 through 2023 for between $1,110 and $1,220.

Units Affected

Approximately 11,000 cooktops were included in this recall in the United States.

Incidents Reported

GE Appliances received 83 reports of incidents in which a burner failed to regulate temperature accurately and/or failed to power off when the control knob was turned to the “off” position. No injuries were reported at the time of the recall.

Ge Cooktop Recall What to Do

  1. Check your model and serial number. The label is located on the underside of the cooktop or in the installation manual. If the model is JP3030 and the serial number starts with LT, MT, RT, or ST, your unit is recalled.
  2. Do not rely on the “off” knob position alone. Until your unit is repaired, shut off power to the cooktop at the circuit breaker after each use.
  3. Never leave the cooktop unattended after cooking until you have verified it is de-energized at the breaker.
  4. Contact GE Appliances toll-free at (877) 261-1509 or the general GE line at 1-800-432-2737, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. ET for a free repair.
  5. Visit the recall page at geappliances.com/ge/recall/jp3030-cooktop-2023 for additional details and to register your unit.

Urgency: HIGH. A cooktop that remains hot after being turned off is an invisible hazard — 83 incidents were confirmed before this recall. Shut power off at the breaker after every use until GE has completed the free repair on your JP3030 cooktop.
