Hazard Description

The washer basket can separate from its mounting during operation. When this happens, the force can cause the top panel of the washing machine to break apart, creating sharp projectile hazards and posing a risk of lacerations or impact injuries to nearby consumers. The separation can occur without warning during a spin cycle.

Affected Models

This recall covers GE Profile front-load washing machines with model numbers beginning with:

  • WPDH8800
  • WPDH8900
  • WPDH8910

The model number is located on the inside door frame. These washers were sold through appliance retailers and home improvement stores nationwide.

Units Affected

Approximately 62,000 units were included in this recall in the United States.

Incidents Reported

GE received 19 reports of the washer basket separating, including 10 reports of top panel breakage. No serious injuries were reported at the time of the recall, but the projectile risk from broken panels presents a significant hazard.

Ge Washer Recall What to Do

  1. Stop using the washer immediately if the model number starts with WPDH8800, WPDH8900, or WPDH8910.
