Hazard Description
An electrical component inside the washer can overheat during normal operation, posing a fire hazard. Three fires caused by this defect resulted in approximately $129,000 in total property damage. The overheating can occur without warning and may start a fire that spreads beyond the appliance.
Affected Models
This recall covers GE Profile brand top-loading clothes washers with the following model numbers:
- WPGT9350
- WPGT9360
- WPGT9150
The model number is located on the inside of the lid. These washers were sold at appliance and home improvement stores nationwide.
Units Affected
Approximately 222,000 units were recalled in the United States, plus an additional 450 units sold in Canada.
Incidents Reported
GE Appliances received 71 reports of internal washer components burning or catching fire, including 3 reports of fires that caused approximately $129,000 in property damage combined.

- Check your model number on the inside of the washer lid and compare it to the three affected models above.
- Stop using the washer immediately if your model is on the recall list.
- Unplug the washer from the electrical outlet until the repair is completed.
- Contact GE Appliances toll-free at 1-877-830-9732 (recall line) or the general GE line at 1-800-432-2737, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. ET to schedule a free in-home repair.
- Schedule the free repair. GE dispatched technicians to perform the repair at no cost to the consumer.
Urgency: HIGH. Seventy-one burning incidents were reported before this recall was issued. Unplug the affected washer and contact GE immediately. Do not use it unattended or overnight until the free repair has been completed.
